Orote Commissary Modifies Operations to Improve Service

04 March 2022

From Valerie Maigue , U.S. Naval Base Guam

NAVAL BASE GUAM (March 7, 2022) – Starting March 14, the Orote Commissary on U.S. Naval Base Guam will increase its grocery delivery dates from five to six days a week to better keep shelves stocked.

NAVAL BASE GUAM (March 7, 2022) – Starting March 14, the Orote Commissary on U.S. Naval Base Guam will increase its grocery delivery dates from five to six days a week to better keep shelves stocked.

This move coincides with the change in operating days for the commissary. Effective March 14, the Orote Commissary will be closed on Mondays and open on Tuesdays.

At present, deliveries occur Tuesday through Saturday. The new delivery days will be from Monday through Saturday, according to Store Director Leslie Carroll.

The modified schedule and operations are in an effort to alleviate the strain of limited storage space at the commissary, replenish what was purchased through the weekend, and allow staff to better stock shelves with product. The extra delivery will bring in items including frozen foods, chilled items, and shelf-stable products, Carroll said.

Last month, Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) William “Bill” Moore visited Orote Commissary to meet with local commissary leadership and employees, assess operations, and discuss initiatives for the store onboard NBG. Storage and logistics planning were among the issues discussed, Carroll said.

In the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic and global shipping challenges have strained resources at stores both on and off base.

“We are doing everything we can to ensure that our shelves are full and able to support the needs of the NBG community,” Carroll said. “If customers have any questions, we have a manager on duty at all times. Stop by the ID desk and have the duty manager paged.”

Beginning March 14, Orote Commissary will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily except for Mondays. Self Check Out hours are from 8 to 10 a.m. for customers with 20 items or less only.
