NAVAL BASE GUAM (Aug. 4, 2025) – U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) participated in Exercise Citadel Pacific 2025 (CP25), along with other Navy Installations throughout the U.S. Pacific Command area of responsibility, July 28 to Aug. 1. The purpose of the annual exercise is to enhance the training, readiness and capability of Navy security forces to respond to threats to Navy installations and units. According to Jeffrey Gee, NBG Installation Training Officer, the overall focus for this year’s exercise is to provide a comprehensive exercise for its base defense program and NBG’s Navy Security Forces (NSF).
“These drills are crucial to maintaining and improving our readiness not only for our security forces, but also for our supporting elements that operate behind the scenes of these types of events,” Gee said.
Supporting elements included Joint Region Marianas (JRM) Fire and Emergency Services, NBG Public Affairs, and the NBG Emergency Operations Center. “Our Security Forces and supporting elements responded to all the planned events well,” Gee said. “The Training Teams were also able to identify areas we can improve upon, which provides us with pointed training topics to ensure, (that) we as an installation are constantly improving our responses and plans.” As this year’s exercise wrapped up, the NBG training team will take its lessons learned and will continue to prepare more cohesive training scenarios for next year’s events. “While we train throughout the year, we use Citadel Pacific to concentrate on complex problems that evolve our first responder’s capabilities to threats across the spectrum, ultimately providing the Installation Commanding Officer and Combatant Commander with a capable fighting force,” said NBG Security Officer Lt. Matthew Harrington. “This week was a tremendous opportunity to take part in the response for these types of incidents, and I’m incredibly proud of the NSF team for the professionalism and aptitude they displayed throughout this weeks’ exercise.” Exercise CP25 was designed to enhance the readiness and capability of the installation to respond to internal or external threats. Exercise CP25 is not in response to any specific threat, but was a regularly scheduled exercise.
