Guam is the U.S. homeland as well as a critical nexus for command and control, logistics, and power projection. Guam is our strategic outpost in the Western Pacific and critical to maintaining deterrence and stability in the region.
"The arrival of the George Washington Carrier Strike Group in Guam underscores the unwavering commitment to maintaining security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region," said Rear Adm. Eric Anduze, commander, Task Force 70/Carrier Strike Group 5. “Guam is America, and it is good to be home. This port is one of the most important strategic locations in the world. We are committed to its defense and look forward to every single visit.”
The George Washington Carrier Strike Group (GWACSG) departed Yokosuka, Japan for a scheduled underway, Sept. 30.
GWACSG is underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. George Washington is the U.S. Navy’s premier forward-deployed aircraft carrier, a long-standing symbol of the United States’ commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region, while operating alongside allies and partners across the U.S. Navy’s largest numbered fleet.
