NBG Receives First Place for Sister School - Sister Village Awards

NAVAL BASE GUAM (Nov. 14, 2022) - U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) was awarded First Place Large Command Category during the Sister School - Sister Village Award Ceremony hosted by Commander, Joint Region Marianas Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson, Nov. 9.
NAVAL BASE GUAM (Nov. 14, 2022) - U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) was awarded First Place Large Command Category during the Sister School - Sister Village Award Ceremony hosted by Commander, Joint Region Marianas Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson, Nov. 9.
The Sister Village Program began in 1974, pairing military units with villages as a means to foster and develop mutual understanding between the people of Guam, military personnel, and their family members stationed in Guam.
NBG community relations projects include coordination of the annual Fena and Sumai memorials, food and clothing donations through the NBG Chapel to village mayor’s offices and several local non-profit organizations, various village clean ups, and outreach programs through village schools, among other projects.
Other awardees included:
U.S. Naval Medical Readiness and Training Command Guam, Second Place Large Command Category Naval Airborne Weapons Maintenance Unit One, First Place Small Command Category Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Five, First Place Medium Command Category Nicholson thanked command representatives for their handwork and dedication to the program. Also present were Mayor Vicente Taitague, mayor of the village of Talofofo, and Mayor Jesse Alig, mayor of the village of Piti.
