NBG's Big Screen Theater Gets Finishing Touches

NAVAL BASE GUAM (Nov. 30, 2023) - The Big Screen Theater is receiving its final touches, as it undergoes a $1.3 million repair following significant damage from Typhoon Mawar. During a tour of the facility on Nov. 28, workers were installing the last of the carpeting throughout the theaters auditorium.

NAVAL BASE GUAM (Nov. 30, 2023) - The Big Screen Theater is receiving its final touches, as it undergoes a $1.3 million repair following significant damage from Typhoon Mawar. During a tour of the facility on Nov. 28, workers were installing the last of the carpeting throughout the theaters auditorium.

MWR Manager Kelly Lizama said MWR leadership is working on finalizing details including the theater concession menu and coordinating what movies will be playing on opening weekend.

The Big Screen Theater sustained substantial water damage during Tyhoon Mawar, which swept through the island on May 23. Prior to Typhoon Mawar the theater was closed due to issues with the projection system, which have since been resolved. However, the combination of water damage and the island wide loss of power for an extended period of time, caused even greater damage and further delayed the theater's reopening.

The latest repairs also include carpet replacement, reupholstered seating, envelope repairs, and HVAC restoration.

The theater is tentatively scheduled to open for movie goers in the second weekend of December.
