Aircraft Carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) Makes Port Visit to Guam, Welcomes Back Guam Sailors

NAVAL BASE GUAM (Feb. 6, 2024) - Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) arrived at U.S. Naval Base Guam as part of a scheduled port visit, Feb. 6. The carrier is joined by Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9 and Destroyer Squadron 23.
Rear Adm. Christopher Alexander is currently serving as Commander, CSG 9.
Capt. Brian T. Schrum is commanding officer of Theodore Roosevelt.
In January 2024, the carrier departed its homeport of San Diego with nearly 5,000 crewmembers aboard.
Theodore Roosevelt, flagship of CSG 9, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. An integral part of U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 7th Fleet operates naval forces in the Indo-Pacific and provides the realistic, relevant training necessary to execute the U.S. Navy’s role across the full spectrum of military operations – from combat operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. U.S. 7th Fleet works together with our allies and partners to advance freedom of navigation, the rule of law, and other principles that underpin security for the Indo-Pacific region.
Theodore Roosevelt will resupply, refuel and provide the crew time for rest and relaxation in the strike group's first port call. Several strike group Sailors are Guam natives or have Guam ties and are proud to be returning today for a hometown visit.
