Recreational water activities on Guam are prohibited for newly arrived personnel until completion of water safety training provided during command indoctrination.
A no-fee passport is required for your family members. This passport is needed should family members require transportation to and from Japan for emergent medical care. If you and your family members intend to conduct personal travel overseas, you should obtain a tourist passport at your own expense.
All family members who drive are required to obtain a Guam driver's license within 30 days of arrival on Guam (this does not apply to active duty personnel). You can obtain additional information at www.guamtax.com.
If your tour on Guam is accompanied, prior to detaching from your current command you should fill out a housing application, DD Form 1746, available at any housing office or via internet from the Navy Housing one-stop website at https://ffr.cnic.navy.mil/Navy-Housing/Policy-Forms-Resources/. Submission of the DD Form 1746 prior to your arrival will assist in making your permanent change of station move easier.
You are required to check in with the housing office within 24 hours of arriving on Guam or within 72 hours if arriving on the weekend.
Be aware, military housing on Guam is relatively small with minimal storage. Due to the expense of shipping household goods and the limited space available, we ask you to not include major appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and washing machines in your household goods shipments. These items will be provided to you by the government if staying in government housing. For more information, contact Naval Base Guam Housing Office at (671) 333-2081/2.
Fleet and Family Support Center Guam is a great resource for incoming personnel. You can find this information at https://ffr.cnic.navy.mil/Family-Readiness/Fleet-And-Family-Support-Program/.
The Governor of Guam has reduced pet quarantine from 120 days to 30 days or in some cases, 5 days or less following the completion of all required prerequisites. To ensure your pets qualify for either the 30-day or 5-day or less quarantine, contact Guam's Department of Agriculture at (671) 300-7965/6 and ask them to email you their latest pet quarantine booklet. Information is available on their website: http://doag.guam.gov/.
For more information on the history of Guam, please visit www.guampedia.com. This website is a Guam Humanities Council Community project to create a comprehensive online encyclopedic resource about the history, culture and contemporary issues of Guam.
